The 7th biennial EuroSkills event will be hosted by Austria in the historic city of Graz. Taking place from 16 – 20 September 2020, the event is set to be the biggest and best EuroSkills yet.
EuroSkills 2020
EuroSkills is a vocational skills competition which is staged as a European championship every two years. The focus is on the outstanding achievements of young greatest talented skilled professionals up to 25 years in about 45 European occupations.
Around 600 young people from 30 countries across Europe will come together to compete for medals in 45–50 skills and professions across a wide range of industries – covering everything from joinery to floristry; web development to the bakery; and autobody repair to mobile robotics.
Competitors will be accompanied by up to 500 training experts, and the event is expected to attract around 100,000 visitors – including businesses, vocational education and training organisations, school children, teachers, parents, and members of the public.
Visitors will have the opportunity to witness the exceptional talent of the best of the best in Europe who will be competing at the highest level in their chosen skill. There will also be opportunities to try hands-on job-related skills across a huge range of careers at the many ‘Try a Trade’ activities that will feature at the event.
Graz, Austria
Graz is the capital city of Styria and Austria’s second-largest city after Vienna. Graz had a population of 328,276 (2019). Graz has a long tradition as a seat of higher education. It has four colleges and four universities with more than 60,000 students. Its historic centre (Altstadt) is one of the best-preserved city centres in Central Europe.
At its heart is Hauptplatz, the medieval old town’s main square. Shops and restaurants line the narrow surrounding streets, which blend Renaissance and baroque architecture. A funicular leads up Schlossberg, the town hill, to the Uhrturm, a centuries-old clock tower. Across the River Mur, futuristic Kunsthaus Graz exhibits contemporary art.
